75th Anniversary fundraising 'Building to 100 Not Out' has hit £80,000 as the season ends

In 2022 Over Peover Cricket Club celebrates 75th Anniversary and kick off a programme of fund raising.

A Sportsman’s Dinner was held in January at Merrydale Manor, with the Irlam family generously donating use of the venue and featured ex England cricketer Graham Gouch and former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce. A very successful auction took place which significantly boosted pavilion funds. This was followed up in April with many of the 1st and 2nd teams players taking part in a sponsored run from Blackpool to Peover.

In mid-summer a weekend of events was arranged with around 500 people attending a luncheon and game versus Lashings World XI. Peover narrowly lost to the Lashings team which included former England stars Devon Malcolm, Martin Bicknell, Ryan Sidebottom and Chris Lewis. An Oak tree was planted on the boundary by Sir Gordon Greenidge to commemorate both Queen Elisabeth II Platinum Jubilee and the 75th Anniversary. On the following evening the Club hosted a Summer Ball with dinner and a live band in a luxury marquee at the ground. It was well attended by villagers, players and guests. The action-packed weekend was completed with Over Peover hosting a women’s festival on the Sunday in glorious sunshine. Over Peover fielded their first ever ladies’ cricket team only formed in 2022 and were very happy with their performance!

Through these events and together with sponsorship and individual donations the Club raised £80,000 towards the new pavilion. It is hoped to file a planning application in 2023 to start the build soon after.
